Playwright Celtic Pub
What our friends and staff say:
Great place to get your shot before seeing “Hamilton”.
The working hours make it amazing for some snacks or drinks after a show at the nearby theatres.
The great atmosphere plus the great food make it a superb place to hang out. And with all the theatres nearby…
The Irish say – “If you’re lucky enough to be Irish then you’re lucky enough”. Well, visiting Playwright Celtic Pub is considered equally big luck. With its location on 8th Avenue, it is easily accessible by the nearby bus stops. It’s at the very doorstep of many of the major theatres – “Richard Rogers”, “The Majestic”, “Gerald Schoenfeld”, “Music Box”, “Broadhurst Theatre”, “Imperial Theatre”, and “Minskoff”. So, if you’ve got your BroadwayPass tickets for “Hamilton”, “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Ain’t too proud”, “Dear Evan Hansen”, “Come from Away”, “Jagged little pill”, and “Lion King”, then this is your place. Be it for lunch after a matinee, pre-show or after-show dinner, even some drinks after a show. The great working time of the pub allows it!
Playwright Celtic Pub is an Irish pub, but you probably got it by the name. They offer a very long menu with Irish and American traditional dishes. They offer burgers for those in a rush, with Hot Pastrami Reuben being a local favorite, but Celtic Pub Burger and Messy Burger are not to be underestimated, too. And you can pick from a number of toppings just for a buck.
Those that have a New Year’s resolution to avoid fast food can choose from the soups, salads and the grill. There’s a daily soup, that’s always hot, the salads are fresh and tasty (again, you can pick your dressings). You can pick from chicken, beef, and fish from the grill, and you can’t get wrong with all of them. Plump Chicken Breast is a company favorite.
The entrees are those that stand out. All traditional from the green island of Ireland. The Celtic Beef Stew, Shepherd’s Pie, Bangers & Mash, and Beer Battered Fish N’ Chips are amongst the famous “representatives” of Irish cuisine not just in the US, but all over the world. A cool feature is that you have a recommended drink in the menu along with the dishes. Not surprisingly – it’s mostly beer.
Although meat dominates the menu, the vegetarians can’t feel neglected. French Onion Soup, Kale and Spinach Salad, Vegetable Pasta (yes, they have great pasta, too) are amongst the quite a few things you can order.
Playwright Celtic Pub offers great packages – Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. They go from $28 to $65 per person and offer 2 hours (the Platinum B offers 4 hours) of a wide variety of things to eat and drink. In addition, you can pick from a range of appetizer plates and buffet. Also, they offer Pre-Fixe ($30 and $35), which includes soup or salad, entrée, dessert, tea or coffee of your choice.
You can book your private or corporate party by a form on their website, and pick from the above-mentioned packages.
Playwright Celtic Pub has a very rich gift shop. You can buy thematic hoodies, jewelry, Guinness tankards, key rings, bottle openers, and many more!
With all the theatres nearby, Playwright Celtic Pub is in the center of the events. An excellent pick to go with your BroadwayPass tickets.
