Broadway Schedule 13/12 19/12: Over the Sunset
The Broadway schedule for the last week before Christmas, 13/12 – 19/12. As the highlight of the week, we can consider Flying Over Sunset at the Lincoln Center.
Broadway Schedule 13/12 19/12
Monday and Tuesday
Besides Company, Freestyle Love Supreme, Chicago, Six, and Waitress everything else is on a deserved break from the long weekend. The significant thing on Monday is the debut of Flying Over Sunset.
Tuesday sees most of the shows running. American Utopia, Diana, and MJ are dark. Flying Over the Sunset also takes a break from that trip it had up to now.
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday
Matinees! Only a handful of shows will have just an evening performance, and only Chicago and Waitress will remain dark for the day.
Thursday and Friday have Broadway on full force, with all shows performing. Only the Phantom will remain dark on Thursday, and MJ and FLS will have matinees on Friday.
Saturday and Sunday
Saturday takes Broadway to the limit with matinees and evening performances of all shows. Company, MJ, and FLS will rest on Sunday, but Aladdin, The Book of Mormon, Chicago, Dear Evan, The Lion King, Mrs. Doubtfire, Six, Waitress, and Wicked will have matinees to close the week.
Flying Over Sunset is a curious play. It has Aldous Huxley, Clare Boothe Luce, and Cary Grant. They have a trip…an LSD trip. In the 1950s, Hollywood, three prominent intellectuals, acid…this should be fun.
This is the promising premise of Flying over the Sunset, a new musical (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Falsettos) written and directed by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Prize winner James Lapine.
Join three extraordinary people, and they will embark on an exciting journey into the most colorful corners of the human mind-to delve into their private desires, hopes, and secrets. Carmen Cusack (Bright Star), Harry Hadden-Paton (My Fair Lady), and Tony Yazbeck (On the Town) led the actors in this wonderful revelation and connection story.
Flying Over Sunset features a gorgeous score written by Pulitzer Prize, Emmy® and Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), and Tony nominee Michael Korie (Grey Gardens). Michelle Dorrance, the world-renowned dancer, and MacArthur grant winner will make her theatrical debut as the show’s choreographer. Don’t miss the next breathtakingly original musical from James Lapine!
